At Yarraville Yoga Centre we run four 10-week terms throughout the year, usually in line with school term dates.

We encourage students to enrol and commit to a 10-week term as the courses are structured for progressive learning from week 1-10.

If you are unable to attend your regular class one week, you can make up a class missed by attending a class of the same level (L1, L1/2, or L2) another night in the same week.


Our Introductory level classes offer a progressive and systematic curriculum of over 25 yoga poses (asanas), including a methodical introduction to shoulder stand, salamba sarvangasana, over 10 weeks. Suitable for all ages and any level of fitness.

The 10 -week course offers a foundation for ongoing yoga practice. Students are encouraged to come to as many Introductory level classes as they can in order to deepen their experience and feel the benefits of practice over time.

For those who have completed our 10-week Introductory course, or equivalent Iyengar yoga classes. Level 1 builds on the Introductory course asana, including regular practice of salamba sarvangasana, shoulder stand and a methodical introduction to salamba sirsasana, headstand, and pranayama.

This class is open to both experienced level 1 and level 2 students. Level 1/2 builds on the level 1 course poses including the regular practice of shoulder stand (salamba sarvangasana) and introduces and consolidates the practice of head stand (salamba sirsasana) and level 2 course poses

For those who have completed a minimum of 12 months at Level 1. Consolidates and builds upon Level 1 asana and pranayama. Includes regular practice of head and shoulder stand (salamba sirsasana and salamba sarvangasana). Home practice or more frequent class attendance is required.

Our regular timetabled classes held in our beautiful light filled Yarraville studio.  Classes are held at all levels including Introductory, Level One, Level 2, IY45 and  Pranayama.

What you will need

A Reliable internet service.

A device with a large screen with an inbuilt camera and microphone (laptop or tablet). ZOOM advises that whilst phones work, joining online meetings’ (ie yoga classes) using a phone, may be problematic due to huge internet surge in online activity by many industries and workplaces.

Yoga props- at the very minimum a mat, 2 blankets or shoulder stand cushions, 2 blocks, 1 belt. A bolster and a chair would be very useful also.  (There is a 10% discount for YYC students buying from iyoga props, using discount code).

A clear space to practice free of clutter. A bare wall or door frame can be useful.

What you will need to do

Download the ZOOM app on the device you will be using and create a Zoom account for free. You will not need to purchase any Zoom plans. Zoom is already paid for by the host Yarraville Yoga Centre.

Please use your first and last name as your Zoom name, so that teachers can identify you.

Create an account with our new automated booking system, Punchpass, entering your email, medical details and sign disclaimer. Select and purchase a pass. You then select and book into the class you wish to attend. The zoom link details will automatically be emailed to you, about 48 hours in advance.

To join your class either: click on URL link in email you receive which will take you directly to the ZOOM online class.

OR open the Zoom app, click ‘Join Meeting” and enter meeting ID number and PIN. These details will also be in email sent to you.

You will be given option to test your speaker and microphone. Go to ‘meeting’. You will be allowed in ‘waiting room’ where you can organize your props and wait for meeting to start.

We ask that you respect our intellectual property rights and not record our classes in any way.

Online Class Etiquette

Mute/unmute- YYC will open meeting with participants ‘unmuted’- this means you can talk to us and ask questions before class. Once class begins YYC will ‘mute all participants’ to remove background noise and interference. It is possible during class to ‘unmute’ from your end to ask question, then ‘mute’ to resume.

Please be patient! We are getting used to Zoom now but sometimes the internet service might drop out, or Zoom crash if overloaded. If the class drops out, screen goes blank, please wait while we endeavour to solve the problem, and keep your mobile handy to check for email updates.

Note that emails from YYC sent via Punchpass might slip into your spam folder so please check there too.

IY45 is a faster paced Iyengar Yoga session of 45 minutes duration.  It is movement-based and will build breath awareness, mobility, flexibility and strength. Great for those with limited practice time.  
Some experience of Iyengar Yoga such as completion of an Introductory series is preferred but not essential. As this is a multi level class, participants need to be prepared to work to their own capacity, and be mindful of any conditions or injuries.

Led Practice is for experienced students (Level 2 and above) who want to explore more complex asanas.  Sessions are typically led by a teacher or experienced student. There may be some instruction, but much less than in a typical class.

The intention is to provide a structure in which we can practise together, learn from each other and deepen our practice. Talk to your teacher if you’re unsure about your readiness or contact us before attending.

Intensives are usually held during 2- week term holiday breaks.

Intensive doesn’t necessarily mean more difficult or challenging poses, it means regular and consistent practice.

Consolidate your yoga practice with 4-5 consecutive early morning sessions.

Experience the positive changes that can take place in your body and mind as a result of daily yoga practice. A great way to start the day.

For Level 2 and 3 students, and experienced Level 1 students with a minimum of 1 year regular Iyengar yoga attendance. Students may attend these classes casually or by booking into a 10-week course.

Pranayama is a set of controlled breathing sequences. The observance and adjustment of the breath begins in asana practice, then pranayama develops and refines this through various exercises and techniques.

Prenatal yoga classes are an ideal way to enjoy a healthy pregnancy. They prepare body and mind for  giving birth, and provide ways to calm the mind and sustain wellbeing.  The demands of busy lives, rapidly changing bodies, fatigue and discomfort, can all affect our capacity to care for ourselves during pregnancy.

Yoga as taught in the Iyengar tradition propagates the simple message that the first priority of a pregnant woman is her health.

One hour prenatal classes will give you opportunities to develop breath awareness, maintain strength, rest constructively, and connect with others. 

The prenatal class is taught by Peter Harley, who has had many years’ experience teaching pregnant woman. Open to all levels of experience, including those new to yoga. You can attend casually or buy a 10 class pass, valid for 3 months.
Classes are held in studio. Props are supplied, but participants should bring (or buy) pillow slip covers or similar to cover bolsters and soft props. 
Iyengar yoga is not appropriate for women between the eighth and eleventh weeks of pregnancy
