About Us

Our Centre

Yarraville Yoga Centre is an Iyengar Yoga school in Melbourne. It is the longest running Iyengar yoga studio in Melbourne’s west. The centre was established in 2003 by a group of teachers: Peter Harley, Amanda Hood, Heather Kitchen and manager David Spratt. They shared a commitment to yoga as a practice for life and lifelong learning. They came across a former wedding reception centre with beautiful parquetry floors in the heart of Yarraville and the rest is history.

Since then, the centre has been home to a number of teacher/directors. Amanda Hood, Heather Kitchen and Juanita Brokas have pursued their respective passions to move interstate and establish centres of their own. Current teacher/directors of Yarraville Yoga Centre are Peter Harley, Geraldine Morey and Madeline Ford.  Amy Wells (2021) and Kate Bywaters (2023) have been welcome additions  to the teaching staff.  Su Fraser provides essential admin support.

Our Mission

  • To inspire and encourage life-long learning and practice of yoga
  • To offer teaching of the highest standard in the art and science and philosophy of Iyengar Yoga
  • To build and support a thriving yoga community in Melbourne’s west.

The Certification Mark is your reassurance of quality teaching.

All of our teachers maintain a personal practice as well as ongoing study and professional development. This includes travels to Pune, India to study at the Iyengar Yoga Institute with students from around the globe. We are fortunate, as Iyengar Yoga teachers to be supported in our learning by senior advanced teachers within the Iyengar Yoga tradition here in Australia, many of whom visit us in Yarraville to share their experience through workshops.
